The federal government shutdown has created a great deal of stress, but help is available. Baltimore City, the State of Maryland, and a range of community organizations are stepping up to help with essentials like food, rent, utilities, child care, job support, and more. As part of a new $4.6M investment, the City of Baltimore is boosting critical programs and rolling out two new programs for child care assistance and rent payment support.
Don’t be afraid to ask for temporary relief from certain bills until you get back on your feet. For example, some credit card and utility companies are willing to negotiate bill payment if you’ve been impacted by the shutdown.
If your resources are secure and you have some to spare, please consider donating money, food, clothing, or time to the many community partners working hard to help get our neighbors through this.

The ROAR Center offers a Resources Library with information to help with needs ranging from crisis assistance, basic needs, health, housing, employment, legal, immigration and more.

Maryland Food Bank has information about how to navigate food assistance during the shutdown, and a database you can search to find food in your area.
Bmore Community Fridge Network (BCFN) is a volunteer-led network of food fridges that supplement food available through food pantries. Check out their map of Baltimore area fridge locations here.
