Deborah Marcuse

she/her, they/them

Director of Legal Services

As Director of Legal Services, Deborah strives to manifest zealous advocacy that is vigorous, thoughtful, and humane. Alongside ROAR’s team of attorneys and paralegals, Deborah promotes a vision of lawyering that is client-centered, collaborative, and focused on building capacity in the communities ROAR serves.

Before joining the ROAR Center, Deborah served as office and firm-wide Managing Partner at a prominent public interest law firm. There she litigated individual and class actions in federal and state courts around the country on behalf of workers, students, detained immigrants, and other victims of civil rights violations. Prior to her work in private practice, Deborah was the founding Coordinator of the City of New Haven’s Reentry Initiative to support individuals returning from incarceration. Before becoming a lawyer, Deborah studied the intersection of religion and moral regulation at Duke University, from which she graduated with a Ph.D. in Religion in 2005.

Deborah finds solace and optimism in the indisputable fact that every day is new.
